World Mental Health Day
We are once again honouring World Mental Health Day today and celebrating the incredible benefits our singing community has on our physical and mental well-being.
Belonging to a community brings many positives, with building friendships and a sense of place in your local area being at the top of the list. There are also several other documented positives, including:
Support - Belonging to a group allows us to both give and receive support from like-minded people. We all lead such busy, demanding lives that having a place to go and feel supported—outside of your family and friends—is a huge benefit to the week.
Connection - A community creates connection and builds relationships. This helps us reach our goals, push ourselves out of our comfort zone, and brings a stronger sense of security to our lives.
Influence - Community participation empowers people, and when they feel empowered, they are encouraged to influence positive change in themselves and others.
Sharing - Being part of a group brings the sharing of ideas and information. This is a hugely beneficial aspect of a community and fosters the growth of individuals and the group as a whole.
Passion - Sharing a mutual passion in an activity such as singing gives people purpose, excitement, and the confidence to try new things and keep learning.
We are always so proud that our community of choirs provides all of these amazing benefits—and more! The real-life social networks that have sprung out of choir friendships, from quiz nights to book clubs to walking groups, prove how instrumental our choirs have been in creating much-needed connections in our busy lives.
UK Soul Choirs has always supported mental health awareness in any way we can and were thrilled to raise over £11,000 for the Mind charity during lockdown.
We continue to foster a sense of belonging in all our choirs by supporting everyone's journey into singing, no matter their experience.
