UK Soul Choirs are delighted to host a summer’s ’Festival of Singing’ on Saturday 24th June from 10am - 4pm. This event is for Soul Choir members only as we will be working on songs from the Summer term repertoire.


The Morning session will consist of a workshop led by choral singing expert Emily Dickens (see biog) which will focus on a few of the terms songs and working on how to improve our singing as an ensemble including phrasing, tuning, text and dynamics. This workshop will greatly enhance the sound we make together and teach valuable lessons on how to continue growing the quality of our sound.


The Afternoon session will consist of a workshop led by soul singing sensation Louise Marshall (see biog) which will focus on different songs from the terms repertoire and working on the overall performance of songs including energy, movement and soul influenced sound. This workshop will be a huge benefit to your confidence in singing out and performing as part of choir and will give expert knowledge of this genre of music and how to sound authentic and professional.


The venue is situated right next to Manor Park so we will all go for a picnic style lunch together in the sunshine - please bring a packed lunch with you. Tea / coffee and biscuits will be provided in the break in the afternoon.

Emily Dickens

An internationally established singer and choir director, Emily Dickens read music at Trinity College, Cambridge, where she held a choral scholarship.  Emily is a Decca Classics Recording Artist and has had four records top the classical charts. She performs regularly with the country’s top professional choirs The Gabrieli Consort, BBC Singers, Monteverdi Choir, Tenebrae, La Nuova Musica, The OAE and features regularly on film and video game soundtracks.

In demand as a choir director and vocal coach, Emily was previously Choral Conducting Fellow at St Martin-in-the-Fields where she conducted St Martin's Chorus, Voices, Choral Scholars and Orchestra, and twice conducted the choir for BBC Radio 4 Sunday Worship. She is AssociateChoral Director at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, a conductor of The National Youth Choir of Great Britain, Chorus Master for Gabrieli Roar and a Chorus Director for theLondon Community Gospel Choir's 'Gospel Baroque' project with Holland Baroque. Emily regularly directs and coaches the London Symphony Orchestra Community Choirs and was conductor forLSO's highly anticipated In The Public Domain, sung by five-hundred members of the community at the Barbican CentreLouise Marshall


Louise Marshall

Louise Clare Marshall, born in Oldham, Lancashire, was immersed in music from her youth, singing since she was 15 months. She trained at Guildhall School of Music and learned her trade singing with bands, West End Shows including ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, ‘Whistle down the Wind’, ‘Soul Train’ and ‘The Genius of Ray’, various session work for many recordings for TV, Radio and films such as ‘Ray, ‘Pirates for the Carribean’ ‘Pan’ and ‘Beauty and The Beast’.

Currently a featured singer with Jools Holland and his Orchestra, Louise has worked alongside David Gilmour, Paul Weller, Chaka Khan, Beverley Knight, Dionne Warwick, Michael Ball, Roy Ayers, Tom Jones, Rag & Bone Man, Ed Sheeran & The BBC Big Band to name but a few.

Last Summer, Louise was the voice on the No. 1 single, ‘Afraid to Feel’ by LF System. It was No.1 for 8 weeks and was nominated for a Brit Award for Song of the Year.

Louise is renowned for style and charismatic performance in all soul, gospel and pop genres.
